I’m a Engineer working in Chiang Mai! AMA
Posted by Berko on November 15, 2020 at 11:44 amHello everyone,
I am a Mechanical Engineer working in Chiang Mai.
I work remotely creating designs in CAD (Computer-Aided Drawing) software, and use Chiang Mai as my home base while travelling throughout Asia.

How many years did you work for your current employer before you were able to convince them to let you work remotely and travel?

Hey Alisha, thanks for the question!
I worked for my company for 3 years, and then approached my boss with the suggestion of trialling working remotely from home. I was a great employee so he was all for trying it out.
After I had proven I could be productive remotely, it wasn’t a stretch to then be able to travel and work from anywhere.

Hi Berko, thank you for the AMA!
How do you like Chiang Mai? What are your expenses per month?

Hi Grahame,
Thanks for your question.
I pay about $800 per month in rent for a nice condo in Nimman, about $200 a month in food, and I like to live a little so about $500 per month in entertainment and alcohol.
I’m saving a lot of money living here, without sacrificing my lifestyle.
The internet is great here too!
