  • How will SEO change in 2021?

Posted by Meredith on December 9, 2020 at 6:52 am

With paid ads taking up more and more space on search engines and zero-click searches being increasingly used by Google, it’s getting harder and harder to get clicks organically.

Some strategies I’ve come across to counteract this is to use multiple channels to get clicks outside of Search (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Podcasts, etc). And re-purposing content so that it can work across these multiple channels.

How do you think we’ll have to adapt to search in 2021? And what strategies are you currently using to adapt to search now?

Quality of backlinks is becoming more and more relevant, over the quatnity.

    You need to consider:

    – Anchor text

    – Domain Authority

I think this trend will continue more in 2021, or the current priorities will stay the same.

Voice search and longer natural search phrases is also becoming more popular, leading to more longtail targeting.

I hadn’t thought of voice search, but with hands free and home assistants like Alexa it makes total sense.

I agree. It’s been quality over quantity for a while now, and it’s just getting more so. YouTube and Google rankings are starting to behave the same. It’s the quality of the video, just like it’s the quality of the article, that counts.

Both content, just in different forms.

Search is just going to get more competitive in an already hyper-competitive landscape.

Here’s what you need to do to stay ahead:

    – Optimize your website for voice search

    – Improve your page load speed

    – Optimize content for semantic search

    – Time spent on your website will matter more and more as Google prioritises link quality over link quantity

    – Take some time learning how AI is taking over Google Algorithms

    – Use multiple channels for Marketing and don’t rely solely on Search

I agree on the competitiveness, it’s tough already. I also agree on diversifying, and it’s something I’m going to do. You can’t just rely on one traffic channel.
