There was a time when I was a nobody

I wanted to achieve some level of internet fame and become a successful writer online. I tried freelancing websites to build a writing career, content mills, but I couldn’t get past working for cents on the dollar.

I was tired of working for cents and needed a better plan. That’s when I realised, you don’t make a name for yourself writing for other people’s startups. I had to go for the established websites.

Thus, a marketer was born and I learned everything I could to become a successful guest poster.

    Here’s how I did it…

Study what content each publication loves

All I did was look at what type of content each website was already publishing, and decide to make it current by wrapping content on topics or current events that were trending.

    And the flood gates opened…

Posting to popular websites or at least growing websites became my primary funnel that grew my freelance writing business.

What guest posting did for me

Guest posting on other publications achieved a few things for me that helped me grow my writing business:

    - My name was being noticed. Eyeballs were on my articles and on my author box

    - It gave me authority. Being on large websites shows you are or at least gives the appearance that you’re an authority on the topics you write about

    - It gave me social proof. You can’t just claim to be a good writer, you need proof that you’re a writer worth hiring. Being on as many publications as possible provides that proof.

    - People were able to read my work and see my writing skills

Wow. I currently work as an Engineer, but would like to do some Freelance work on the side for it as well. This would be a great way to get my name out there and noticed. Great write up!

Do it! It’s always better to have multiple sources of income instead of one. So you’re not totally dependent on your employer.

      And thank you 🙂

Everything you write is so true. I’m not a freelance writer, but I do run a blog. And guest posting on other blogs really helped me position my blog as an authority in my space.

It is the magic bullet that I think more people need to know can turn their fortunes around.
