Does free shipping work?
Say you’re shopping online and at checkout, you find you need to spend just a little bit more money to qualify for free shipping, let’s say just $5. Would you either, pay an extra $3 for shipping, or owould you purchase another item for say $10 to get the free shipping at checkout?
For me, I’d rather find another item since the free shipping is free savings, and I don’t really like to pay for shipping items. But maybe others don’t mind paying the shipping charge?

As a shopper I am always happier and more likely to purchase if the site is offering free shipping

Shipping is the #1 thing that can make or break your online business. Whether it’s the actual shipping cost, the cost of packaging, or the shipping time. If you’re not paying attention you can bleed money, in lost sales or margins.
For all the online site owners I know, in all cases they offer free shipping and free returns. There is an understanding with customers that the cost is covered in the purchase price, but they still prefer it over additional charges.
Additional charges are just another obstacle to get over before you make a purchasing decision. Remove as many of these as you can. Less clicks, less additional costs, etc.
